I have always loved to sing and play, and have been fortunate to enjoy a career in both teaching and performing. I find great satisfaction in teaching children, teens and adults, as each student brings their own unique talents, challenges and personality to their lesson. In over 30 years teaching, I’m still fascinated by the learning process and continually surprised and delighted by everyone’s achievements – small and big!
I graduated with an honours degree from the Royal Academy of Music in London, specialising in flute and piano. Having always been a keen singer it was a privilege to be asked to teach voice. I worked to obtain further qualifications and studied with an eminent professor in London.
I have had the pleasure of performing as a singer and player with the New English Orchestra which took me touring in the UK and Europe. I enjoy giving flute recitals when I can, performing locally in public venues, but also taking music into care homes.
I believe music should be fun to learn, entertaining to perform and a place to go for solace, peace and reconnecting with oneself. It is a wonderful way to communicate and a skill set which brings countless rewards.
It is not necessary to study for exams, although I often enter students (when ready) from the lowest grades, right up to Diploma level.
I work from my studio at home in Stafford, but also on-line. I am a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians (ISM) and use their pro formas for my business terms and conditions. I also have Public Liability Insurance through the ISM.
Reading music is a skill that can be learned – it’s not one of the Dark Arts! Learning the rudiments of theory is not a purely academic exercise, but enables more subtle and effective performances. It’s all about the sound! I encourage all my students to learn to read, but there’s plenty of room for self-expression too!
There are lessons when we laugh or even cry together at the beauty of what we are creating. Why not embark on a creative journey with an expert and discover how to express yourself in music? Please do get in touch for more information.
